Saving Energy Made Easy

Practical tips for companies and communities

Every year, the international Energy Saving Day reminds us how important it is to use energy consciously. However, saving energy is not just a one-off action, but a long-term process that reduces costs, protects the environment and contributes to climate neutrality. Communities and companies play a central role in this. But which measures really make a difference? We have put together practical tips to help you sustainably reduce energy consumption.

Increase energy efficiency

Energy efficiency starts with lighting. Switching to LED bulbs not only saves electricity, but also extends the lifespan of the bulbs. This change saves up to 80% of energy. Further savings can be achieved by using motion detectors and brightness sensors that only activate the light when it is actually needed.

Use the off button instead of standby mode. Modern office equipment and electronic products are often equipped with energy-saving modes. Make sure that all computers, printers and other devices are switched off after use. If there are several devices, a power strip with a timer can also be useful.

Energy accounting helps companies and communities to identify and optimize inefficient areas. By identifying consumption hotspots, both technical systems and processes can be made more efficient.

Well-designed building insulation reduces heat loss in winter and cooling costs in summer. Programmable thermostats allow efficient control of room temperature. Thermal insulation of pipes and components is a cost-effective measure. Heat loss can be reduced by up to 30 percent

Employees play a central role in saving energy. Raising awareness through training promotes sustainable behavior. Turning off lights in unoccupied rooms or the conscious handling of electronic devices can result in significant savings in the long term. Reward systems and internal competitions can additionally motivate and increase participation. Because changing one's behavior not only saves energy costs in the organization, but also at home!

In addition to electricity, water can also be used efficiently. The use of water-saving fittings, the early repair of leaks and a well-thought-out water management system help to save resources. Excessively high water temperatures are wasted. The ideal temperature in the hot water tank is 60°C, and at the tap it should be at least 50°C.

Sustainable procurement can also make an important contribution in purchasing. Energy-efficient devices and machines incur lower operating costs and protect the environment at the same time. Clear procurement guidelines and close cooperation with facility management ensure long-term efficiency. Pay attention to the energy efficiency class, the appropriate size and the power consumption.

A pleasant indoor climate not only contributes to well-being, but also saves energy. Proper ventilation and an optimized heating strategy can significantly reduce energy consumption. Lowering the room temperature by just one degree can save six percent of heating energy without sacrificing comfort. Ventilate sensibly and efficiently: three times a day for five to ten minutes, turning off the heating during that time.

An energy audit systematically shows where companies and communities have potential for savings. The ISO 50001 provides a proven basis for structured energy management. For communities, the Energy City label is a valuable tool for promoting sustainable development and for reducing energy consumption in a targeted manner and increasing energy efficiency.

Conclusion: act sustainably and benefit

Whether you are a business or a public authority, saving energy not only means reducing costs, but is also a decisive step towards sustainability and net zero. With the right measures, significant savings can be achieved without sacrificing comfort or performance.

Let's take action together!
