A sense of responsibility at Swiss banks - BCV as a pioneer

BCV has been working hard to protect the environment for many years. The bank has been analysing its carbon footprint every year since 2008 and has been giving financial support for climate projects since 2019.

BCV pays particular attention to reducing its carbon footprint, which it calculates annually, then sets a reduction target and implements concrete measures to achieve that target. Since 2011, the bank has also been participating in the Carbon Disclosure Project’s climate-change questionnaire. The CDP is an international organisation whose mission is to encourage companies to report and reduce their carbon footprint.

In addition to these initiatives, BCV is keen to make a further contribution to the protection of the environment by financing projects that reduce CO2 emissions. It donates to projects primarily in the canton of Vaud, but also abroad depending on the options that are available. These projects include a biogas plant on a farm in Vaud, wind turbines in India and energy-efficient stoves in Mozambique.

We have had the pleasure of supporting BCV in making its selection of projects to reduce its carbon footprint – seeking out those projects which best matched its strategy, making contact with the relevant partners, and ensuring that the process ran smoothly. We then assessed the content and impact of the proposed projects to ensure their quality. We work only with partners whom we trust and who follow the most widely-recognised international standards.

"We are delighted to have collaborated with Swiss Climate since 2016. Swiss Climate continues to provide us with its expertise and a keen eye for detail, from undertaking our carbon footprint analysis, setting our target to reduce our carbon footprint by 35% by 2030 compared to 2019, and preparing our CDP report. Thanks to Swiss Climate’s network, we are pleased to have been able to support a carbon footprint reduction project in the canton of Vaud. Swiss Climate listens and is always very responsive to our individual requirements." Angélique Chatton, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Banque Cantonale Vaudoise
