Galliker Transport – climate protection reimagined

Galliker Holding AG, headquartered in Altishofen, is a Swiss transport and logistics company with a long history. The family business has been at the forefront of climate protection for years and proactively invests in alternative fuels.

Each year, Swiss Climate works with Galliker to calculate its carbon footprint in accordance with international standards (ISO 14064 and Greenhouse Gas Protocol). This not only takes into account the greenhouse gas emissions from the company’s own operations (Scope 1 and 2) but those produced in the value and supply chain as well (Scope 3). On the basis of the carbon footprint, Galliker and Swiss Climate have defined measures in the main areas and estimated the reduction potential over the next ten years. Galliker has thereby been able to commit to a realistic decarbonisation roadmap.

The first Swiss transport company to have a science-based target for all scopes

At the beginning of 2023, Galliker’s climate target was validated by the Science Based Targets initiative with the support of Swiss Climate. As the first Swiss transport company to have an SBT for all scopes, Galliker has set a milestone in the Swiss transport industry and started a fresh chapter in the company’s long history. Galliker is aiming to gradually replace diesel engines with alternative propulsion systems over a period of ten years and is also committed to using 100% renewable electricity, some of which is produced on site with photovoltaic systems. The impact of the reduction measures is analysed yearly in the carbon footprint and the results are reported publicly and transparently through the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) with Swiss Climate’s help.

‘Thanks to its specific industry knowledge, Swiss Climate was able to provide valuable support and guidance throughout the whole process of developing a science-based target. We are pleased to have Swiss Climate alongside us as a competent climate partner.’
