Energy saving solutions for the shipping industry

Shipping is by far the most energy efficient way to transport large amount of goods. Nevertheless, the requirements are enormous, and so are the potentials in saving.

Saving energy is saving operational costs and to us, this is the most effective approach to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, Swiss Climate has developed a tool to evaluate the efficiency of various energy-saving solutions on commercial ships. This allows us to quantify the investment and the payback period for each solution. We can then target the most attractive measures for each individual ship. Some of these solutions are presented on the next pages.

As the implementation of energy saving solutions is often hindered by the investment cost, Swiss Climate is working with partners to offer financing solutions in which the ship owner immediately benefits from the savings. A classical win-win situation.

As part of the Ahrenkiel Group, we have access to all the technical and practical experience required to properly evaluate, test and implement our solutions. We already implemented various techniques and further test are planned.
